Hi. I’m Kimball. Welcome. I’m so grateful you’re here!
Since early childhood, I’ve been on a mission to get to the bottom of things. If I asked a question at home, I’d be directed to our set of encyclopedias. When I was in high school I developed an insatiable appetite for learning everything I could about the inner workings of the human mind. I often hung out at the library feverishly reading case studies and medical journals. (Read: I was super fun in high school.) While I was earning my Bachelor’s Degree, I would tend to get caught up in all my research and forget to sleep. I worked with my county’s wards- the people who were declared incapacitated by mental illness. I was very troubled by how very little good the professionals entrusted with their health and safety were able to do. It occurred to me then that unless the whole person is treated, the treatment can’t be wholly effective. In spite of the fact that I hold a degree in Psychology, I graduated with a complete disinterest in further involvement in such a broken field, and opted not to pursue a graduate degree in Clinical Psychology. I didn’t lose my interest in helping people, however, but chose to pursue a path that allowed me to help the whole person. I found work at a crisis pregnancy center and was able to help women reach physical, mental and spiritual health in spite of life circumstances. I thought I’d found the path of my dreams.
But it wasn’t until my oldest son nearly died of an allergic reaction to peanut butter that I began to focus my attention on physical health.
What is Heavy On Wholesome?
On that day all those years ago, after I watched my baby slip into anaphylactic shock I determined to get to the bottom of it. Why is he so allergic? Why are allergies increasingly common? Are all of his other health and behavioral issues related to his allergies? Why isn’t the medical community doing anything about it? How can we prevent and reverse these problems? I began to see just how broken and incomplete the medical field is, how politics rather than health drive the food industry, and how product manufacturers are taking advantage of us and making us all sicker and sicker.
Since 2004, I’ve spent a large portion of my waking hours researching all I can about health and wellness. I believe that God created us to be healthy and to thrive, but that we live in a sinful, fallen world that doesn’t make that easy. I believe that modern science has discovered many principles of good health, but that those principles originate from God, who created us. It is our Great Physician who has provided us with the keys to good health.
I claim these Biblical truths as the foundation for everything I blog about:
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31
…I am the LORD, who heals you.
Do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity…trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding…this will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.
Proverbs 3:1-2, 5, 8
Come along with me as I write about…
…all with a Biblical perspective.
